The Queen visits Greater Manchester

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh carried out engagements in Greater Manchester including the opening of MediaCityUK, as part of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, 23 March 2012

The Queen, accompanied by The Duke of Edinburgh, visited St Mary’s Hospital and the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, meeting staff and patients and listening to a specially commissioned musical work.

The Queen then officially opened MediaCityUK where she toured the facilities, including the ‘Match of the Day’ and ‘CBeebies’ studios. The Duke of Edinburgh visited the Salford University Media Centre, meting students and staff members and viewing a display.

The Royal Party had lunch at Manchester Town Hall, hosted by the Lord Mayor of Manchester, then viewed a specially designed Jubilee garden in the town square. Finally The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended an ‘Urban Garden Party’ at Manchester Central where they met guests and watched a music and dance performance.
